Ruan Swart, also known as Deep South Photography, is a man with a passion for the ocean. Hailing from Knysna, he spends most of his time at  Plettenberg Bay, where he is a passionate bodyboarder. His favorite spot is the Plett Wedge, a wave that offers unique water angles. It is here where he first discovered his love for capturing these angles through photography.

Three years ago, Ruan stumbled upon some second-hand camera gear and started to capture the beauty of the ocean through his lens. From swimming and capturing the angles of different waves to photographing surfers flying high above the lip, Ruan’s love for photography grew with each passing day.

In 2023, Ruan has big plans to spend more time behind the lens and share his passion with others who call the ocean their home. He wants to capture the beauty of the ocean and the thrill of surfing and share it with the world.
